Update September 2022

9/21/2022

It has been quite awhile since I have given any updates on the current goings on with Atrocious Records or been active on any social media. However I am still here and working on what comes next. I also want to use this update as a bit of an introduction for what this label really is and will be moving forward.

Atrocious Records is a one man show and a passion project of mine (MorphineNapkin). I originally started the label in 2007 on Myspace as a way to promote new bands that I was finding on the site. It wasn't really a "Record Label" at that time, I didn't know anything about getting physical media made or even how to sell it online back in those days. My main focus back then was putting together a monthly compilation that was available as a free download. I found the bands, put together all the tracks and made some crude cover art in MS Paint. Then I would upload it on MediaFire and promote/spam the links all over Myspace. After about 5 months it became too much of work to keep up with and life started to get in the way so I abandoned it all together.

This time around is much different. It started while talking to Empty Banks about a noise split. I had a huge collection of blank tapes and wanted to learn how to puta tape release together. So Atrocious Records was reborn as a way to release that initial project. My goal was to make the release by hand and recycle as much as I could in the process. So I sourced cases and shells from pre-recorded cassettes, spliced 90 minute tapes that I already had down to 60, designed the J card and hand stamped the shells. It was a great learning experience.

Moving forward it will be much the same. I am someone who takes on too many projects at all times and can never keep them in order, so I am not looking to "sign" any artists at this time. I am looking for a few artists that may want to be a part of split releases in the near future, but I don't want to start juggling another bands work around full time when I already have too much on my plate, that's especially not fair to artists who just want to put out their work. So for the foreseeable future, Atrocious Records is mostly a name that indicated work that I made. The projects are not going to be related. There are a few noise releases in the works, but there are also things that are much different; like a Grindcore/PowerViolence album and multiple albums that are being made with A.I.

I don't have an actual timeline of release for anything, but I do know that new things are for sure coming out in 2023. I have at least two albums of noise and ambient drone tracks that are almost ready. The grindcore release needs vocals and a few more tracks to be worthwhile. The A.I. stuff is a constant experiment right now that has hundred or tracks made by the A.I that I now need to get in and do my part on.

Everything that is planned at this time will have a limited tape release and, depending on how much I need to argue with distribution, should be streaming on most platforms.

I will return soon with further updates as I have them. Moving forward AtrociousRecords.com is the main place to find updates on everything going on with the label MorphineNapkin.com for anything else related to my music and things I may be working on. I will start posting more on social media as thing are being released, but don't expect major updates on there as to what's going on.
